FAQ
Is Bodhi Somatics therapy?
No. Bodhi Somatics is not therapy.
It is a somatic practice that uses movement, awareness, and guided exploration to support people in developing greater connection with their bodies, nervous system patterns and lived experience.
While it can be therapeutic in effect for some people, it is not psychotherapy, does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and is not a substitute for professional psychological or medical care.
What happens if I feel emotional during a session?
That’s welcome. Emotion is information.
All sessions are trauma-informed, with an emphasis on working within your window of tolerance so you are not pushed beyond what feels manageable. The pace is guided by your capacity in each moment, supporting awareness, grounding, and integration.
Do I need yoga, mindfulness or meditation experience to benefit from this practice?
No, not at all. Although some of the practice are based on yoga-style movement or mindfulness techniques, you do not need to know how to meditate, be flexible or know anything about yoga.
Can Bodhi Somatics be used as a substitute for psychological support?
No.
Bodhi Somatics is not a substitute for psychological support or psychotherapy.
It does not replace therapeutic support.
For people experiencing significant distress, trauma, or mental health difficulties, working with a qualified psychologist, psychotherapist, or other appropriate healthcare professional is important, and somatic work can - where appropriate - sit alongside that support.
Do you offer Bodhi Somatics in my area?
Currently I am only practicing from Amandari in Greyton.
If you have a space in mind, please get in touch and we can explore whether it feels like the right environment. I do use lots of props and equipment, so the conversation would start with the space itself and what's available.
Do I need to wear or bring anything special to a retreat or session?
You will be comfortable if you wear loose clothing, easy to move in and bring a pair of warm socks.
A journal if you like to write, and a pen or pencil. And an open and friendly mind.
Is this suitable for me if I'm going through something difficult?
It depends. Bodhi Somatics is well suited to everyday challenges many of face.
However, if you live with acute distress, anger, panic attacks, depression, trauma or recent bereavement, this particular space may not be enough support for you right now.
If you are not sure where you land in all this, please contact me for a brief chat.
Where are you based?
I am based at Amandari Yoga Shala in the beautiful village of Greyton, Western Cape.
An easy 95kms from Somerset West, 126 km's from Cape Town International Airport and 140km from Cape Town City Centre.
Does Amandari offer accommodation?
No. Amandari does not offer accommodation. Accommodation is for your own arrangements. However, Greyton offers a wide variety of accommodation options from basic & affordable to more luxury accommodation. I'd be happy to offer suggestions.
How do I join a group retreat?
Booking is easy.
Simply contact me via phone, WhatsApp or email - I usually get back to you within 48hrs.
I ask a few questions beforehand - it helps me understand where you are and make sure I find the right fit for what you need
Is the facilitator a therapist?
No. The facilitator does not offer psychotherapy or clinical mental health treatment during retreats. The work is rooted in somatics, embodiment, meditation, and experiential practice rather than therapy.
On many - though not all - experiences / retreats, a licensed therapist or counsellor is present to help support the space.
Important note
Bodhi Somatics is a somatic education and awareness-based practice, not psychotherapy or medical treatment.
While sessions may be emotionally supportive, they are not a substitute for mental health care.
If you are experiencing significant distress or mental health challenges, working with a qualified psychologist, psychotherapist, or other healthcare professional is recommended.
